Tlaxcala - Fireflies

We had been meaning to go and see the fireflies in Nanacamilpa, Tlaxcala for a long time. But the season to do so is July and August. So we booked a weekend that included a Pulque Tour and the Fireflies Tour at night. We went with our good friends the Grinches. We stayed at Posada San Francisco downtown Tlaxcala. Very nice hotel. Tlaxcala downtown is very nice and very clean. We arrived on Friday and we went for dinner while we waited for our friends to get there. We were able to see a short light show on the walls of a building. When our friends arrived we accompanied them to have dinner, at the restaurant they selected, they were playing live music, so to make it fun, Jack decided to jump in and play the drums (watch video).
The next day we were picked up at 1 and we went to an old Hacienda called Casa Goyri to see the process of the Pulque making. We tried some pulque and some curado de coco. We had a meal at the Hacienda and then off we went to the fireflies sanctuary. We arrived and it was very busy. However, it was well organised. Unfortunately, after a nice hike in the dark, we were able to see fireflies but not as many as I expected. It was nice but nothing spectacular. It was then that the clarified that the best time to go is early July.
